Dr. Kok trained through the United Kingdom higher surgical training program at the Wessex deanery in England. He did uveitis and ocular immunology sub-specialist training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and was consultant ophthalmic surgeon in the United Kingdom National Health Service prior to his return to Malaysia.

Dr. Kok has served in the department of the National University of Malaysia/Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia where he advised on complex management cases and where he had also functioned as surgical tutor to specialist and doctors on the Malaysian Masters of Surgery specialist training program.

He has also served as examiner for the Master of Surgery (Ophthalmology) and has also been on several consultative bodies in the Ministry of Health, advising the government on health policies relating to ophthalmology. He has also co-ordinated the program for continual ophthalmology education and updating of specialist skills here in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr. Kok continues to be at the forefront of medical research and has collaborated in research with the National Institute of Ophthalmology in the United Kingdom and University of New South Wales in Australia. He has presented and published over 60 papers in international and national meetings and journals and continues to lead research at the ISEC.

In addition to medical diseases of the retina eg. macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, Dr. Kok has particular sub-specialist interest in uveitis and ocular inflammation as well as complex forms of glaucoma such as rubeosis and angle closure.

Dr. Kok also performs cataract and pterygium surgeries.

Away from work, he has an interest in the arts and is a keen golfer and epicurean.
