Dr. Michael Law graduated from the prestigious University of Dublin, Trinity College (founded in 1592, the oldest university in the Republic of Ireland), with Bachelor of Art and Medical Degrees (BA, MB. BCh, B.A.O) in 1993. In 1997, he qualified with the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and became a full Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (UK). In September 1999, he was gazetted as a Clinical Specialist in Ophthalmology by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

In June 2000, Dr. Law received subspeciality training on Cornea and External Diseases of the Eye at the renowned University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. During this time, he was trained extensively in the active management of complicated cornea and anterior segment diseases.

While undergoing training in LASIK and laser refractive surgery at the famous Gimbel Eye Center in Toronto, he also collaborated on a revolutionary research paper in which cornea transplantation was performed under topical anaesthesia. This was subsequently published in the prestigious peer reviewed journal Cornea, in 2004.

Returning to Malaysia in 2001, Dr. Law joined a local eye hospital where he practiced as a Cornea and Anterior Segment disease specialist. In 2006, he further contributed to Malaysian public health and Malaysian ophthalmology by reporting on the existence an epidemic of Fusarium fungal corneal ulcers among contact lens users in Malaysia at the International Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Meeting. Until his departure in late 2006, he performed, on average, over 40-50 cornea transplantations per year. He also pioneered the development of various innovative cornea surgeries at the hospital.

Currently he has performed over 500 cornea transplants, amniotic membrane grafts and other anterior segment reconstruction procedures. He also performs various laser refractive surgeries, including LASIK, and is also one of only a handful of certified ICL (Implantable Contact Lens) surgeons in Malaysia.

He is currently the chairman of MaCEED (Malaysian Cornea And External Eye Disease Panel ; 2008/2009) , and a Member of both the prestigious Asian Cornea Society and the  Cornea (Castroviejo) Society in the U.S. He is also a co-editor and contributor of the Malaysian National Transplant Registry on cornea transplantation, and a visiting lecturer to the Department of Optometry, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM ; National University of Malaysia). He is also a contributing editor to the Medical Progress journal.
